Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a warm ceremonial welcome during his ongoing visit to Kuwait, marking the first visit by an Indian leader in 43 years. This visit aims to solidify and invigorate bilateral relations between India and Kuwait.
Ceremonial Welcome and Guard of Honour
On the second day of his visit, PM Modi was honored with a Guard of Honour at the Bayan Palace in Kuwait. The Prime Minister was warmly received by HH Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah, the Prime Minister of Kuwait. The Ministry of External Affairs noted this as a “special welcome on a historic visit.”
Talks with Kuwait’s Leadership
Extensive discussions were held between PM Modi and Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to enhance cooperation in key areas such as defense and trade. The Indian Prime Minister is also scheduled to meet with Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah. These discussions are aimed at boosting longstanding ties between the two nations, with a focus on strengthening economic partnerships.
Emphasizing Strong Economic and Community Ties
Kuwait stands as one of India’s top trading partners, and the Indian community is the largest expatriate group in the country. Strengthening these ties is a focal point of the visit, as both nations look toward a collaborative future.
Events with the Indian Community
The visit commenced with PM Modi addressing an Indian community event and visiting the Gulf Spic Labour Camp. During his speech, he emphasized the importance of aspirations and hard work, sharing his vision for “Viksit Bharat 2047.” He highlighted the collective effort required for progress, mentioning that he sees himself working tirelessly alongside his fellow Indian citizens abroad.
PM Modi’s visit aims to reinforce the connection with the Indian diaspora in Kuwait and demonstrate India’s commitment to supporting its expatriates while fostering mutual growth with Kuwait.
