Rahul Gandhi Faces Crime Branch Probe After Parliament Scuffle
Delhi Police Transfer BJP’s FIR Against Rahul Gandhi to Crime Branch
The Delhi Police has transferred the First Information Report (FIR) filed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) against Rahul Gandhi to the Crime Branch for investigation. This move comes in the wake of allegations surrounding a scuffle in Parliament involving the Congress leader. A senior police officer confirmed that the Crime Branch would now handle the case.
Parliament Scuffle and Political Tensions
On Thursday, tensions escalated between BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) members and Congress-led opposition MPs at the Makar Dwar of Parliament. The scuffle erupted following remarks made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, leading to accusations of disrespecting the Constitution’s architect from both sides. These heated exchanges culminated in protests and counter-protests by the involved parties.
Accusations Against Rahul Gandhi
The BJP has accused Rahul Gandhi of “physical assault and incitement,” claiming he allegedly pushed a BJP MP during the altercation. The situation escalated when two BJP MPs, Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput, were admitted to the hospital with head injuries sustained during the clash. Following this incident, BJP members Hemang Joshi, Anurag Thakur, and Bansuri Swaraj filed a complaint.
Congress Demands Inquiry
In response to the FIR against Rahul Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, alleging he was “physically pushed by BJP MPs” and demanded a thorough investigation into the incident.
Congress Reaction: ‘FIR a Badge of Honour’
Upon the filing of the FIR, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal expressed on social media platform X that the complaint was a “badge of honour” for Rahul Gandhi. He accused the BJP of using the FIR as a “diversionary tactic” in retaliation against Gandhi’s firm protest against the Home Minister.
The Legal Proceedings
The complaint was lodged at the Parliament Street Police Station by BJP MP Hemang Joshi, with support from Anurag Thakur and Bansuri Swaraj, leading to Rahul Gandhi being booked under the BNS.
This incident highlights the ongoing political friction within the Parliament, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive inquiry to ensure accountability and uphold parliamentary decorum.
